Honda-tastic

The more discerning of you that don't watch gameshows and soap operas will have undoubtedly seen the new Honda sponsorship of documentaries on Channel 4. Channel 4 is the home of any documentaries worth watching, and an association with Honda is a pretty good natural fit. In a exceedingly post modern turn of events, Honda's sponsorship features a number of mini documentaries made by W+K showing people using their Honda's in innovative ways. And given the sort of driving I see every day on the roads of St Albans, you have to go fairly far out there to do something that doesn't pass for the ordinary any more. I must admit I've never farmed alpacas but I did once use my dad's Honda Civic Type R to transport over half a dozen hamsters about when we moved house. We … Read entire article »

Dealing with Boredom

There may be times in your life when you have nothing to do or are at a loose end. I had a lot of time like this shortly after I graduated and found myself living in my university town over the summer holidays when there were no buggers about and nothing to do. This was the post web but pre Facebook world too, so there wasn’t quite as much to do online as there is now. In my capacity as a failed writer, I’ve developed one or two story ideas that have become fleshed out to the stage of plot outline and have even done a bit of research into the subjects and specialities. One of these is Nordel Freelunch, … Read entire article »

Video games on the high street- the future

The high street has been suffering recently and the recession has only sped up what had been already happening. Dixons and to a lesser degree Jessops highlight the problem well. Canny consumers have used their stores to test out potential purchases and then hopped on to a computer and bought the products online for a massive discount. This has hit gaming stores too. Why pay £40 for a new release in GAME or HMV (a store which is still selling Marvel vs Capcom 3 for £42.99) when you can pre-order it online, and often get it the day before release for a tenner less? And with some stores passing off second hand releases as new, you’re often safer buying online. Virgin/Zavvi’s exit from the high street a few years ago was a … Read entire article »
