Failed by Failblog

When I was browsing HMV before Christmas and found one of their staff had amusing shoved an inappropriate sticker on a copy of the Human Centipede, I twitpic’d the photo from my iPhone and thought nothing of it. It wasn’t until one of my followers mentioned that the photo had been posted on failblog that I realised how arbitrary the concept of copyright really is on the internet. I tweeted failblog, commented on my uncredited photo (they deleted the comments/didn’t pass them for moderation) and even emailed them to request that they either credited my picture or removed it. Of course they completely ignored me, which is generally how people are treated by other people in this day and age. The photo on failblog had several thousands votes for it, which eclipsed … Read entire article »

Barclaycard Platinum with Balance Transfer

Barclaycard are offering 0% on balance transfers for 20 months, and until 3rd May 25% off additional balance transfer fees. This is a good thing because lets face it we are living, if not in the End of Days, at the very least in troubled times. That bridge you drove over this morning on the way to work? That was Simon & Garfunkels Bridge Over Troubled Waters that was. With inflation on the rise, meaning the pound in your pocket is worth less on a daily basis and a lot of banking organisations paying no attention to LIBOR (can you … Read entire article »

Fill her up please

My Dad has always fancied himself. Sorry, that fullstop shouldn’t have been there, my Dad has always fancied himself as a bit of a photographer, and the above picture he took at the British GP in 1969 proves he was more right than not. Graham Hill had nipped out of his Lotus 49, probably for a crafty fag, and my Dad decided to snap it being refuelled, probably whilst having a crafty fag himself. You’ll note the detailed safety precautions the man with the large cannister of petrol and big metal funnel is taking (hint: he’s not having a crafty fag). If you squint really hard, you can even make out the Shell logo on the blokes jump suit. In my capacity as a daddy blogger and as a part of the … Read entire article »

Jolicloud and Joli OS 1.2

I’ve now been exclusively using a new and funky Linux distro on my netbook for a couple of weeks. Why? I hear you ask and tha’ts a very good question. I’ve always tended to be a Windows XP sort of person, although I’ve had brushes with Mac OS and Linux in the past. The reason is almost entirely down to my netbook. I have an Asus EEE 901 and from a design point of view it is almost entirely faultless. The build quality is much better than anything I’ve seen, certainly a lot better than the creaky Acer Aspires a lot of my chums have, and the battery life is also pretty good. The main problem though is almost entirely down to the way the SSD (solid state drives) work. I was … Read entire article »

Boxee Box Review

The Boxee Box is a rather natty piece of hardware, built by D-Link and running the Boxee open source media software. In techie parlance it’s a media streamer, but it does a fair bit more than that. But let’s take a step back for a moment. What is a media streamer I hear you ask. Well I didn’t exactly hear you ask it but on the off chance you don’t know what a media streamer is, I’ll tell you. If you’re not au fait with the term, chances are you’ve still come across a media streamer anyway- BBC iPlayer, 4od and ITVreplay are all media streamers of a sort. They let you watch media, in this instance television programmes, by streaming them from the internet. Under the hood things are a … Read entire article »
