5 Invaluable iPhone Apps
I’ve had my iPhone 3GS a little over a year now and have installed and uninstalled hundreds of apps in that time. There are a few that remain constant though, so I thought I’d share them with you. Whilst the app store does have a rating system, this is plagued by people who aren’t very clever slating apps because they’ve not read the information before buying them or can’t follow (simple) instructions. CoPilot Live. There are plenty of satnav apps out there, some of them are flipping expensive but this one isn’t. It does the job well and for £20 it doesn’t make sense to me to pay any more than this. TuneIn Radio. This is a great little app that lets you stream radio stations over wifi or your iPhones 3G … Read entire article »

Become a (FHM) Bionic Man
I don’t tend to buy many magazines now days but when I did my cupboards were full of Q, Empire and FHM. Space, reading habits and time gradually robbed me of most of them but I still occasionally buy FHM. It was around pre-Loaded when men’s magazines had interviews with the likes of Dennis Hopper and articles on the merits of expensive leather shoes. Times have changed of course but FHM is still one of the better reads on the lads mag shelf of the news agents. You can tell this by the fact WH Smiths don’t package it in a silver plastic bag like they do with some others. Anyway this month you can get £1 off FHM and have a shufty at the rather nifty free magazine FHM Bionic. … Read entire article »

Sunday Night Music: KLF
I’ve been having a bit of a retro trip on the MP3 player recently. Back to 1988 in fact. I’ve been walking into work to the accompaniment of the KLF’s White Room. At the time the KLF came across as a bit of a comedy act: Tammy Wynette duetting with them on a mix of Justified and Ancient, lots of silly costumes in the videos and so on. But if you listen to the music with a good pair of earphones at a good bit rate on a decent MP3 player, it’s bloody good stuff. I may not know what a MuMu is and I’m certainly not justified and ancient but tracks like the What Time is Love, L:ast Train to Transcentral and 3am Eternal (below) are banging. If you’re looking to … Read entire article »

Star Wars on Blu Ray is up for pre-order!
Star Wars* is finally available to pre-order on blu ray. Of course we’ll have to wait and see what sort of irritating tinkering Lucas has done to the original trilogy- I doubt they will be available in their original theatrical cuts (or even a cleaned up version), and I seriously doubt whether Lucas will manage to resist the temptation to tinker even more than he did with the special editions, even though the reports say it is simply a transfer of the 1994 DVD versions to high def format. This could be the trilogy I own the most copies of in different formats if I’m not careful. I’ve got the pan and scan VHS, the widescreen VHS and the first DVD release. In terms of the actual cut of the film, … Read entire article »

I am an enormous fraud
I entered a blog competition recently. The prize was a copy of World War Z, the zombie survival guide. All you had to do to enter was detail your zombie survival plan which I duly did. But my entry was fraudulent. I didn’t make up my entry for the competition. All I did was write down the plan I’ve devised over the last few years to survive either a zombie apocalypse or any other major disaster. Perhaps I think too much (or too little) or don’t spend enough time in the real world but things like wilderness survival need to be considered on the off chance we’d need to act on them. Anyway, my entry is repeated below for your delectation: … Read entire article »
